Welcome Fall! October has rolled in and autumn is upon us. Do you know how many food- and nutrition-related events are happening in October? Take a look through this calendar, follow the links for more information about the days and events, and pick something to celebrate with family and friends:
National School Lunch Week, October 10-14
This year’s theme is “Show Your Spirit!” Find out what your local schools are doing this week to celebrate. Many schools celebrate all week long with special menus, fun events, and games for kids.
National Farmer’s Day, October 12
A day dedicated to celebrate and recognize the hard work of those who keep our nation fed. Find a local farm to learn about the plants and animals that provide food every day. Pick out a pumpkin from your favorite pumpkin patch!
Declare your own personal commitment to help end world hunger. Take a few minutes to learn about hunger and food concerns that exist for many people across the world. Find something you can do to help locally, or on a wider scale.
Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo, October 16-18, Boston, MA
The national convention for dietitians! Networking, education, professional development. You can catch up with other UAND members while you’re there, as wel as dietitians across the nation. Please share pictures and useful informatin learned with us!
Take a day to look closely at your own diet and our nation’s current food policies. There are often local events commemorating this day and the topic for the year.
If you’re looking forward to celebrating with something delicious, there’s probably a day set aside just for your favorite October treat:
Pumpkin seeds on October 5th. Pumpkin cheesecake on the 21st. Pumpkin everything else on Pumpkin Day, the 26th.
Sweeten things up with some candy corn on the 30th, and don’t let Halloween pass you by without a tasty caramel apple, celebrated on the 31st.
