Today we have guest blogger, Casey Allred, sharing the National Nutrition Month activities she and her classmates organized at Brigham Young University. BYU dietetic students received our 5th and final NNM grant. Take it away Casey!
The Brigham Young University dietetic students look forward to National Nutrition Month every year because it is a fun opportunity to share our knowledge of nutrition with our fellow students. This year for one week in March, we set up a booth on campus that had different themes each day. We taught passersby how to eat healthy on the go, the dynamics of MyPlate, effective weight management, and how to cook healthy meals.
With the NNM grant, we purchased MyPlate pens to pass out to students who participated in the activities at our booth. These students were also entered into a daily raffle to win a MyPlate water bottle, apron, and Jamba Juice gift card. We were very happy to receive the support of local vendors including Costco, Macey’s and Einstein Bagels who donated food for us to hand out to the students. It was such a great experience for all to be part of national nutrition month with over 80 enthusiastic dietetic students, thousands of BYU students, and with the support from our local community and the Utah Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Great job BYU students and all of our wonderful grant recipients! We have seen fantastic NNM events at all 5 sites and can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with next year!
