Did You Attend UAND’s Annual Legislatvie Day?

February 28th, 2014

On February 19th, UAND members met at the Utah State Capitol for UAND’s annual Legislative Day. Dr. Lyon-Cotti of the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah shared her knowledge of the local government and how to be an effective citizen lobbyist. Afterwards members were able to try to speak with their local representatives and observe the legislative session.

While the best time to get your message to your representatives is before the legislative session starts, it’s never too late to share your beliefs with your representatives. When congress is in session they can be overwhelmed with messages that will often be read by interns before being passed along to the representatives.

Unsure of how to contact your local representatives? Click Here to find your representatives and learn how to contact them.

How to get your message to your representatives?

  • Write them a letter – Very few people send letters in the mail anymore, this can help your message stand out compared to the countless e-mails they receive every day
  • Give them a call – If you’re very passionate about an issue and a little more bold don’t be afraid to give them a call and share your views.

Your local representatives are there to represent the public – but they can only do that if you share your needs with them.
