Impact of SNAP Benefit Cut in Utah

On November 1 the boost in the amount of SNAP benefits put into place as economic stimulus in the 2009 Recovery Act (ARRA) came to an end. This means a reduction in benefits by an average of five percent (about $36/month or $9/week for a family of four).

In case you were wondering the impact of the SNAP benefit cut on Utah:
  • $26 million fewer dollars in benefits spent on retail food purchases
  • 253,000 people receiving less money to purchase food, including
  • 151,000 children with less food
  • 38,000 seniors and the disabled with less food
